Flood sacks Delta state ministries, agencies and public schools


For the negligence of Delta State Government to construct drainage channels to control erosion in Asaba, the state capital, government ministries, agencies and a public school owned by the state ministry of women affairs have been sacked by flood that wreaked havoc on the state capital at the early hours of Monday, September 26, 2016. The torrential downpour that started as early as 7.am continued for over three hours breaking through fences, submerging the government ministries and sending the ministry officials packing as the flood took over the offices in the old state secretariat in Asaba.

Epidemic Looms In Imo Over Abandoned Refuse Heap


Imo State residents have called on the relevant authorities and the state governor, Rochas Okorocha, to urgently intervene and evacuate a massive refuse heap in front of Ekeukwu Owere Market, along Douglas Road, Owerri, the state capital. They claimed the refuse heap has been abondoned for weeks.
The Guardian gathered that the refuse had been there before last Saturday’s sanitation.
One of traders, who identified himself as Igwe, urged the government and health agencies to evacuate the refuse before an epidemic occurs.

Finally... President Buhari Signs Climate Change Pact


President Muhammadu Buhari has said that his signing of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change has demonstrated Nigeria’s commitment to a global effort to reverse the effects of the negative trend.
The President said this while addressing the opening of the meeting on Taking Climate Action for Sustainable Development in New York, co-hosted by Nigeria and the United Nations Environment Programme, UNEP, as one of the Side Events of the 71st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, UNGA71.

The Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, over the weekend launched an environmental sanitation programme ‎tagged ‘Gba’femo’ (Sweep Ife Clean).

The programme is worth millions of Naira and anchored by Motherland Beckons and has as part of strategies to push residents’ involvement a cleaning competition among all the streets in Ife.

‎The cleanest street in Ile-Ife and its environs when chosen would receive a cash reward of 100,000 Naira every month.

President Muhammadu Buhari has left Abuja for New York, United States ahead of the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The President who departed Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at about 11 o’clock Saturday morning was seen of by Minister of FCT MUhammad Musa Bello and other senior government officials.
